Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Innovation Philosophie ("we", "us") uses personal information when you visit this website, fill in one of our forms or write to us. It is written to be read in a few minutes. If anything is unclear, write to us at press@themoove.co.
Who we are
Innovation Philosophie is run by Pat Villaceran and Nathan Reardon. It includes The First Letter, Embody, the Innovation Philosophie Podcast, our founder mentorship cohort and Black Envelope.
The organisation responsible for your personal information (the "controller") is Innovation Philosophie, Inc., of [REGISTERED ADDRESS].
We are based in the United Kingdom. We follow UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). If you are in the EU, the EU GDPR gives you the same rights, and you can contact us with any question.
This website is a preview for now. We ask search engines not to list its pages.
What we collect and how
Information you give us in our forms
Our forms are run by Perspective. Each form asks only for what it needs.
- Waitlist. Your email address. You can also tell us what you are building, if you want to.
- Investor enquiry. Your name, email address and firm or fund. Whether you invest personally, what type of investor you are, which stage you usually invest in, and what you would like to talk about.
- Partner enquiry. Your name, work email, company and website. The type of partnership you have in mind, what you hope to achieve, when you would like to start and who signs it off.
- Black Envelope application. Black Envelope is by invitation. Places go through interview-style screening. The form asks for your name, email address and company, what you are building, roughly how much your business makes a year (in US dollars) and what you would bring. It also asks who introduced you, if anyone. That question is optional.
- Mentorship cohort application. Your name, email address and company, what you are building, where your business is today (its stage or revenue) and how you would add value to the cohort. If the fit looks right, we offer a 15-minute screening call. To book it, you use our booking tool, and we collect the details you give when you book.
- Nathan Reardon intake. Your first name, last name (optional), email address and short answers about which option fits you best (podcast guest, a conversation with Nathan Reardon, or a founder looking to grow). If you tick the optional cohort box, Pat Villaceran's team also sees your answer for the founder cohort. This is not an application. If you tick the optional email box, we may email you about The First Letter and the Innovation Philosophie Podcast.
Information about how you reached the form
When you send a form, it also passes us a few details about how you got there:
- the campaign tags in the link you followed, if it had any (source, medium, campaign, content and term);
- the page you started from;
- the button you clicked;
- which form you used (the "join source").
We do not put personal information in campaign tags.
Your marketing choice
Our forms include one or more optional boxes. Each optional box is unticked unless you tick it. If you tick a box, you agree to what that box says, for example that we may email you about The First Letter and the Innovation Philosophie Podcast. You can unsubscribe at any time.
If you tick a box, we record that you agreed and which version of the wording you saw. If you leave a box unticked, we record nothing for that choice, and your form is handled in the same way.
Information from other people
- Introductions. If someone introduces you for Black Envelope, the applicant may give us your name.
- Pat Villaceran or Nathan Reardon may nominate a founder for Black Envelope. If so, we record the founder's name, role and business facts taken only from public sources, such as company websites and press. We never buy, scrape or guess email addresses. We tell you about this when we first contact you.
Information collected when you visit the website
- Hosting logs. Our website is hosted by Vercel. Like most web hosts, Vercel records technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser, device and the pages you viewed.
- Fonts. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts. To do this, your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address.
When you write to us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us.
Payment
We do not take payment on this website or in our forms. If we offer paid membership later, payment will be handled by Stripe. We will update this policy before that happens.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
UK GDPR (and, where it applies, EU GDPR) says we need a lawful reason for each use. In short: we rely on your consent for marketing, and on our legitimate interests for applications and enquiries. Here are the details.
| What we do | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Email you about The First Letter and the Innovation Philosophie Podcast | You asked us to, by ticking the box | Consent. You can withdraw it at any time |
| Reply about the waitlist and tell you when the next intake opens | You asked to join | Steps you asked us to take before a contract, or our legitimate interests in running the waitlist |
| Reply to investor and partner enquiries | You asked us to get in touch | Our legitimate interests in replying to business enquiries, and steps before a contract where a partnership may follow |
| Review Black Envelope applications, hold screening interviews and decide who to invite | You applied | Steps you asked us to take before a contract, and our legitimate interests in choosing who to invite |
| Review mentorship cohort applications and hold the 15-minute screening call | You applied | Steps you asked us to take before a contract |
| Reply to Nathan Reardon intake forms and, if you tick the cohort box, review your answer for the founder cohort | You asked us to get in touch | Our legitimate interests in replying and in reviewing your answer, and consent for the email box |
| Record a person who introduced an applicant, or a founder we nominate | To understand how a founder came to us, and to invite people who fit | Our legitimate interests in finding founders who fit Black Envelope |
| Record campaign tags, entry page, button clicked and join source | To learn which pages and links bring people to us | Our legitimate interests in improving our website and outreach |
| Keep a record of your consent and the wording version | To show what you agreed to, and when | Legal obligation to be able to prove consent |
| Host the website, keep logs and load fonts | To run the website and keep it secure | Our legitimate interests in a working, secure website |
| Reply when you write to us | You asked us to | Our legitimate interests in replying |
A person reads every application. No decision about you is made by a computer alone.
Ticking or not ticking any optional box does not affect any application or enquiry.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising by others.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers. In law they are called "processors". They handle your information only on our instructions.
- Perspective Software GmbH (Berlin, Germany) runs our forms. See Perspective's privacy policy.
- HubSpot, Inc. (United States) holds our contact records and sends our emails. Form answers go to our HubSpot account. See HubSpot's privacy policy.
- Vercel Inc. (United States) hosts this website. See Vercel's privacy notice.
- Google provides the fonts on our pages. See Google's privacy policy.
- Our booking tool handles bookings for the mentorship screening call.
- Our email provider runs our inbox at press@themoove.co.
- Stripe, only if we offer paid membership later.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights.
International transfers
Some of our providers are in the United States. Perspective is in Germany. So your information may be handled outside the country where you live.
Vercel and HubSpot say they take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension. They also use standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission and, for the UK, the UK Addendum.
Where your information goes outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or, where needed, the ICO International Data Transfer Agreement or the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Commission Standard Contractual Clauses.
Cookies
This website uses HubSpot analytics cookies, but only if you agree. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept. Until you select Accept, the HubSpot tracking code does not load and sets no cookies. If you select Reject, it stays off.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as Reject, and HubSpot analytics stay off.
Analytics cookies (only after you accept). HubSpot sets these to show us how visitors find and use the site, and to link your visits to a form you later send us. They are described in HubSpot's list of the cookies it sets in visitors' browsers:
- __hstc. The main cookie for tracking visitors. It holds a visitor ID and the times of your first, last and current visits, and a session count. It lasts six months.
- hubspotutk. Keeps track of who a visitor is. It is passed to HubSpot when you send a form, so your visits can be matched to your contact record. It lasts six months.
- __hssc. Keeps track of a session, so HubSpot knows when to start a new one. It lasts 30 minutes.
- __hssrc. Tells HubSpot whether you have restarted your browser. It lasts until you close your browser.
HubSpot can also keep small records in your browser's storage (such as __hmpl and hublytics_events) to hold tracking events briefly before sending them. HubSpot's content delivery provider, Cloudflare, can set short-lived security cookies (__cf_bm, __cfruid and __cfuvid) to protect against bots and abuse. HubSpot treats these as necessary.
Your choice. We store whether you accepted or rejected in your browser's local storage, under the name ip-cookie-consent, so we do not ask on every page. This is not sent to anyone.
Here is what else runs:
- Our own scripts. They open menus and forms, check your form before you send it, and remember your cookie choice. They do not set cookies.
- Google Fonts. Your browser fetches our fonts from Google, which receives your IP address.
- Perspective forms. Our forms open from Perspective, inside our pages or in a pop-up. Perspective forms can show their own cookie notice, where you can make your choice. Perspective may set cookies needed to run the form. Under PECR, we ask for your consent before any non-essential cookies are used.
Changing your choice. Select Cookie settings at the foot of any page to open the banner again and choose Accept or Reject. If you change to Reject, we remove the HubSpot cookies we can reach and stop the tracking code loading. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it.
- Waitlist and marketing details: until you unsubscribe, or after 2 years with no engagement
- Investor and partner enquiries: 2 years
- Black Envelope applications and screening notes, including those not invited: 12 months after our decision
- Mentorship cohort applications and screening calls: 12 months after our decision
- Consent records: as long as we hold your details, plus 2 years
- Emails you send us: 2 years
If you unsubscribe, we keep a record of that so we do not email you again.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the EU
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal information;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- limit how we use it;
- send it to you or another organisation in a common format.
You also have the right not to be subject to decisions made only by automated processing. We do not make decisions that way.
You can also object to any use based on our legitimate interests. You can object to marketing at any time, and we will stop.
You can withdraw your marketing consent at any time. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to us. This does not affect what we did before you withdrew.
To use any of these rights, write to press@themoove.co. We will reply within one month. We may need to check who you are first.
Complaints. Please tell us first, so we can try to put it right. You can also complain to a data protection regulator:
- in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can make a complaint on the ICO website;
- in the EU, the regulator in the country where you live or work. The European Data Protection Board lists every EU regulator.
If you are in California
If the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies to us, you can:
- ask what personal information we collect, use and disclose;
- ask us to delete it;
- ask us to correct it;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell it or share it for advertising;
- use these rights without being treated differently.
To make a request, write to press@themoove.co. You can also ask someone to make the request for you, with your written permission. We will check who you are before we act. More on your rights is on the California Privacy Protection Agency's website.
Security
We use trusted providers and limit who can see your information. Perspective runs our forms. HubSpot holds our records. Vercel hosts this website. No way of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot promise perfect security.
Children
Innovation Philosophie is for adults who are building businesses. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect children's information. If you think a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top. If a change is important, we will tell you by email where the law requires it.
